Gold LEAF is a dynamic organization. Our programs and classes are flexible and intriguing; you can be creative with us.


Our leaders and active members are highly motivated people who like to relax, be involved, and have fun. We enjoy the learning environment of the campus, and the campus likes us because we are a vital link to the local community. Gold LEAF offers:


courses requiring no educational pre-qualifications

learning without stress, without tests or credits

affiliation with the University of Maine Farmington (UMF)

access to UMF’s facilities and faculty

a member-run organization devoted to lifelong learning in the Franklin County area

classes reflecting the interests of its members

socializing with people with a similar interest in enhancing their knowledge of the world around them


Mission Statement:


The Gold LEAF Institute (GLI) was established in 1997 as a member-run organization for LIFELONG EDUCATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MAINE FARMINGTON. Its members are age fifty or over, and their spouses/partners who do not meet the minimum age requirement, who:
1) seek intellectually stimulating activities to enhance knowledge, and
2) appreciate social interaction as an opportunity to build new friendships.

Gold LEAF Membership and Fees Information:

  • Annual Membership Dues are $30.00 for the period July 1 through June 30. If joining for the first time, dues are pro-rated at $20 if joining during the Fall/Winter term; $10 if joining during the Spring term. Dues are tax deductible.
  • The Gold LEAF program year runs for three terms: Fall/Winter, Spring and Summer.
  • A person must be a senior college member to participate in activities and courses, plus pay a small course fee, if applicable.
  • Fees for each course will vary according to length.
  • Field trip costs are based on the expenses to Gold LEAF for the event and transportation.
  • Members of Gold LEAF are eligible to take classes at any of the 17 Maine Senior Colleges without paying additional membership dues; just pay the applicable course fees.

To become a member, fill out the membership form on the Membership Information page and mail it, with the correct payment, to Gold LEAF-UMF, 186 High Street, Farmington, ME 04938.


Gold LEAF Registration Information:

  • Registration will be held open for the courses which have not been fully booked until two weeks prior to the scheduled date.
  • All registrations are made on a first-come, first-served basis when payment is included.
  • Registrations are taken by mail, in person at the GLI office or at the open house event. NO PHONE RESERVATIONS
  • You will receive a course and registration confirmation.
  • For information about the status of course offerings, call the Gold LEAF office at 778-7063.
  • Refunds will be made for GLI events if notification is received seven (7) days prior to the event with the exception of tickets paid for in advance.
